Ozaukee Talent Showcase to be Held in Random Lake, WI

Saturday August 7th 11am to 2pm at Christ Pond Retreat Center

[Grafton] [WI] [July 24, 2021] Ozaukee Talent welcomes you to an informal open house showcase of local talent on Saturday August 7 between 11 am and 2 pm.  Admission is free and open to the public.   Approximately 15 students (mostly youth) have volunteered to share their musical and acting talents at Christ Pond Retreat Center in Random Lake, WI with mostly family and friends.  Christ Pond Retreat Center is an events facility located on 100 acres of preserved Wisconsin land.  The address is N1599 State Hwy. 57 in Random Lake, WI.  Visit christpond.org for more information.

“The reason why I don’t use the word ‘recital’ is because a lot of people have preconceived ideas on what a recital is and the images that come to mind can tend to be negative.   I don’t believe in forcing anyone to perform who doesn’t want to.  I have seen that this can do more harm than good especially in a young child.  Families and guests are also free to come and go as they please.  The performance environment is comfortable and casual —Angie Mack, Ozaukee Talent founder and Musical Producer

Outdoor special guest performer will be longtime radio host Ben Merens.

Ben Merens is a storyteller and public speaker with a passion for listening. He is a veteran broadcaster and spent 21 years as a talk show host at Wisconsin Public Radio.

Today Ben provides stories for organizations and trains people in the art & science of effective, emotive storytelling.  He is the author of “People Are Dying To Be Heard” and “Uni-Tasking: 25 Tips For Better Listening.”  Ben is trained as a journalist and media professional. He has taught a variety of communications classes at colleges and universities in New York, Chicago and throughout Wisconsin.  For fun, Ben is an improvisational, acoustic guitar troubadour.

Ozaukee Talent was founded by Mack in February of 2016 after a bout with very early stage breast cancer and a two year medical leave from her usual teaching and directing duties through the North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA).  She is known by many families in Ozaukee County as a musical theater director who has been involved with producing and directing over 100 shows during the past 20 years.

Mack is also internationally known as a music educator, researcher and historian.  She has worked with many famous writers and playwrights, musicians, actors, producers and film directors from all over the world.  She introduced the music history concept for Grafton’s downtown Paramount Plaza and has served as the Chairperson for the International Walk of Fame Committee since 2006.

More about Mack in the media can be found at https://angiemackreilly.com/media/

Mack has a strong reputation of developing top notch talent.  Students of hers have become lead roles at various regional theaters and organizations such as The Milwaukee Repertory Theater, First Stage, The Fireside, Schauer Arts and Activities Center, The Cedarburg Performing Arts Center, Kids from Wisconsin and the Cedarburg Cultural Center

Most recently, Ozaukee Talent sponsored singer/songwriter Demetra Prochaska at the Youth Battle of the Bands competition at this year’s Gathering on the Green in Mequon, WI.

21 year old Prochaska won 3rd place and $1000 which should help her musical career get off to a good footing.

Ozaukee Talent collaborates with local businesses and organizations to bring about successful music and arts events, classes and programs.  Mack gives private music and acting lessons outside of her home which she jokingly nicknamed The Grafton House of Blues.  She is currently looking to add instructors for the fall semester.  Contact angie@ozaukeetalent.com if interested.

TESTIMONIALS:

Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, Value

Ozaukee Talent has instilled in my son the love of piano and music. Angie does an amazing job and is an outstanding teacher. I hope you choose her!

Positive: Professionalism

Angie is so knowledgeable of music and the business. She is a great teacher and person to work with.

My son has been receiving guitar lessons from Angie for several years, individual and group. He really enjoys working with Angie. She does a great job of mixing the child’s interest in different music styles with teaching.

What can I say? Angie of Ozaukee Talent is truly amazing! She once said that she loves to uncover the hidden gems in our community. But I truly believe that she herself is a rare gem! She is one of the most talented, compassionate, creative people that I have ever met. By planting musical seeds, she has opened some amazing doors for our children in the arts. She produces and directs plays in our community, she teaches musical instruments, voice, public speaking, audition practice, and the list goes on. She is truly a blessing in our community!

Angie at Ozaukee Talent is amazing! Not sure what we would do without her patient guidance. Ozaukee Talent is a hidden gem. Thank you, Angie Mack Reilly for all you’ve done for us!

Angie has a great ability to bring out the hidden talents in her students for both young and old alike. With her 20+ years of experience in music and the arts, Angie helps her students explore, experiment and develop their talent. Her studio invites creativity, whether she provides lessons in piano, guitar, vocals, or drama. As an adult student, Angie helped me bring focus and clarity to my love of music and singing and I had the opportunity to entertain in my community. She also made the 88 keys on the piano so easy to understand in just a short period of time. Taking lessons with Angie, whatever your dicipline, should be part of anybody’s curriculum Angie is the person, the coach, you want in your corner to get ready for your big day. She is a great supporter and promoter of local talent AND a talented musician in her own right. Thanks Angie!

Moving “Back Home” May 1st!

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 50 Second

by Angie Mack Reilly

I remember receiving a program booklet of NSAA classes in the mail in 2005. At the time, I had been a K-8 Music Teacher at a private school. I remember thinking, “What a great opportunity for youth to have!” (I wish there was an arts school around me growing up!)

I took my music students on a field trip. We went to go see NSAA’s production at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center. It was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. (Recalling that show makes me smile even now.) Josh Pope was Joseph. I absolutely fell in love. I went to every show they put on that weekend. I felt like I was at “home”.

I then emailed the founder, Sheri Bestor, to compliment them on their programs. I explained that I was a K-8 Music Teacher. I asked if there was anything I could do to help their organization. Oddly, they were about to do a musical production and needed a Music Director. Sheri asked if I could be the Music Director. (I have been the Music Director for so many shows now that I forget which one was my first…..perhaps Seussical?) She also asked if I could teach a few private lessons after school so I did.

My private lessons grew so much that I ended up leaving my K-8 position to work for NSAA.

Before the recession hit, NSAA was doing two major Stagekids Productions and three Jr. Stagekids programs per year. On top of being the Music Director for their Stagekids Productions, I became the Producer/Director for the Jr. Stagekids Programs. Add to that multiple music and drama classes that I was teaching each week combined with scores of private music students. I also traveled to other facilities to direct and teach as an NSAA staff member. I was one busy gal and having the time of my life!

I was able to raise my income level and become a first-time homebuyer.   Serendipitously, the house that I fell in love with was one block south of NSAA. I took up my new residence.

Then, the recession hit NSAA pretty hard as it did other arts organizations.

In 2007, I stepped in and became their Marketing Director, putting in more volunteer time than paid time just to help the organization stay afloat the best that I could. I remained their Marketing Director until 2012 when I went through some medical issues. At the time, I had over 40 private music students per week on top of directing and teaching.

I had to take some time off of doing what I loved so that I could heal and recover. I took on a position with another company so that I could work from home for two years.

But I really, really, really missed directing, teaching and working with youth!!!!!

When my health improved, I decided to return to NSAA and take on a few more private lessons.

The health issues that I went through made me consider quality of life issues. I realized how much I loved working with children in the arts and how comforting it was for me to be in the NSAA building. But during the course of me being gone, some transitions occurred and there wasn’t room for me to be employed like I once was.

So I decided to become an NSAA Affiliate.

On May 1st, I will be moving into the NSAA building as the owner of OZAUKEE TALENT. I will basically be doing what I have been doing for all of these years; giving private lessons, teaching arts classes, putting on music events, helping businesses with marketing and more. My “Musical Learning Lab and Interactive Classroom” will be on the 3rd floor perpendicular to the dance studio where the Trinity Irish Dancers rehearse.

I AM SO EXCITED and nothing could feel more natural and “right” for me to be doing right now.

I am thankful for this opportunity.

And I am especially thankful to Sheri Bestor for starting NSAA, hiring me, and now for allowing me to be an affiliate.

This is my passion.

This is my dream.

This is what I do best.

Thank you NSAA. Thank you Sheri. Thank you Paula. Thank you Debbie. And Scott. Martin. And those who have served on the NSAA Board over the years. And the parents. And the businesses.

Arts education is vital and integral to the health and growth of our community. Thank you for your support.  Ahhhhhh, “There’s No Place Like Home!”
