Dr. Lena McLin was born in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of five she was sent to live with her uncle, Thomas A. Dorsey. She attended the Pilgrim Baptist Church as a child, where she was exposed to gospel music and served as an accompanist to her uncle’s choir. McLin has a bachelors in music, specializing in piano and violin, from Spelman College, and a graduate degree in music from the American Conservatory of Music.
“We have retained Angela Mack as our only music teacher for our 3 children for the past 3 years. She has taught all 3 of them at their level of ability. The most satisfying aspect of having Angela as their music teacher is how she has awakened and encouraged a love of music theory and composition in them. Our children play / experiment on the piano throughout the day at our house, oftentimes 3 or 4 times within …the same day, on their own. Our children always enjoy going to lessons with her. Angela is very good with children of all ages, and the time the children spend with her is a joyous time for them. She has a very joyous interaction with our 3 children, and this has left them with a desire to learn more about music, and it’s components. Lessons with Angela have never been “just piano lessons,” they’ve always been “music for life” lessons. I would recommend her enthusiastically for any type of music instruction/coaching/voice lessons. Her love of music and creativity can be read on her face and through her interactions with clients and students. She is a true original.” –Mark Schultze
“Angela is a gifted educator, who is patient, kind, and nonjudgmental. During her private lessons or practices much is expected from each child and much is given to each child. Angela has the intelligence, drive and stamina to find the best way to teach each child. Angela will bring her vast experience, sound judgment, reliability, maturity and tremendous talent to every session with your child.”
“Angela is a solid voice teacher and a very capable performer who deals naturally in “possibility thinking.” That makes her students and fellow performers function with the positive in mind, and creates better progress accordingly. Her work with our daughter helped foster a love for the stage and for music and I recommend her as a means of achieving similar outcomes.” –Steve Heston
Glad to see that you are teaching again. Just wanted to say thanks for all you have done for our family and wanted to give a recommendation. You took our little daughter Julia, who had a lot of desire, but no skills, taught her vocals and acting until she landed the lead role in “Annie”, a memory which will… stay with her and our family forever. You even were willing to work on my vocals, a rather hopeless case, until I finally dared to go on stage and be the front man for our band.
Thanks again for everything.
Best, Klaus
