Ozaukee Talent Contributes to Date with a Plate 2019 Breast Cancer Fundraiser

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 39 Second

Angie Mack Reilly went in for her first ever mammogram at the age of 42. It was then that she learned that she had breast cancer. Angie underwent a bilateral mastectomy shortly after.

“If there is any message that I can convey on the subject, it would be that the PTSD, financial devastation and grief over losing a huge part of oneself is very real during the aftermath.  I still struggle and have not been able to find adequate help during these past 6 years.  The emotional pain does not go away once the cancer is gone.   Self care is vital.”  –Angie

Ozaukee Talent will be offering free music lessons as part of the part of the popular Spin to Win wheel game during the event at the Pfister Hotel.

About the fundraiser

“ABCD is commemorating 20 years of providing emotional support at Date with a Plate 2019! Sponsor a table and be a part of this spectacular evening! Your support will ensure that those affected by breast cancer are able to connect with someone who’s walked a similar path. That’s what it’s all about, one-to-one mentoring, and you help make it happen.

This year’s event won’t be your typical fundraiser. We’re turning up the volume and throwing a good, old-fashioned party. Find the person with the longest arm and use them to buy your raffle tickets. Take your chance on Spin to Win and see where the needle lands. Outbid your mother-in-law on live auction item #4, and we’ll watch the fireworks. Raise your paddle till you can’t any more and celebrate ABCD’s 20th Anniversary.

Buy your tickets today! Can’t attend, but would like to make a donation?

Would you like to sponsor a table? Contact Julie Frinzi at 414-410-3211 or julie@abcdmentor.org

“…Turn up the Tunes” News Graphic Article December 2018 by Michelle Standlee, RN featuring Ozaukee Talent

Toss the tinsel, turn up the tunes

by Michelle Standlee, RN

Here in the midst of Christmas season, we are surrounded by reminders of this magical time of year.  Bright, twinkling lights hang delicately from the lush boughs of the Christmas tree and colorful, wrapped gifts beckon us to open them. Nativity scenes nestled gently in the snow display our Savior’s birth. But what if we were missing one thing that essentially breathes life into this season, that one thing that gives special meaning to it all? What if we turned on the radio or walked through a store and the only
thing we heard was chatter – or pure silence?

Music. It is the beautiful sound that graces our ears and lifts our spirits. Holiday music and Christmas carols can create an atmosphere of both excitement and peace. In her wisdom, Jane Austen once spoke these powerful words: “Without music, life would be a blank to me.” She recognized how critical music is to life. Music is as essential to the holidays as it is to our community.

Angie Mack Reilly, founder of Ozaukee Talent and children’s musical producer with Grafton’s North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA) states, “Music events create a sense of belonging and are vital for the good health of any culture. Simply put, music events improve our quality of life in Ozaukee County and give us a sense of community.” Mack Reilly, who has worked with thousands of children through mentoring, teaching and directing, has lived in and contributed immensely to the arts for 23 years in Ozaukee County. She declares, “The arts industry naturally teaches an awareness and appreciation for human life and the human experience.”

Kat Chronis, new mother of two and owner of Lakeside Music and Naturals in Port Washington, appreciates the benefit of music. She sees it in the beautiful smiles of the children and mothers she teaches in her Music Together with Kat classes. Chronis, a registered nurse, uses music and movement to create fun, unique classes for kids aged newborn through five, with their caregiver.

Another Ozaukee county resident and talented violist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra recognizes the life-changing potential of music. Amanda Koch of Cedarburg recently decided to pursue a degree in Music Therapy, a well-established allied health profession that uses music therapeutically to naturally address behavioral, social, psychological, communicative, physical, sensory-motor and cognitive functioning. Music therapy can be incredibly beneficial for those struggling with a disability or illness such as autism or Alzheimer’s disease. Children with autism and those with Alzheimer’s often struggle with communication, but music can transcend barriers, enabling the music therapist to connect with those most difficult to reach.

According to Mack Reilly, music and “the arts can be a means of coping with childhood trauma and combating depression and anxiety.” After working with many children over the years, she remarks that oftentimes musically-gifted children are struggling with life. She has discovered that music and the arts are ways for these children to express creativity and build confidence in themselves.  She also importantly notes, “Our young children need less social media time and more time collaborating with others through the arts in real life.” With the arts extremely close to her heart, Mack Reilly has dedicated much of her life to promoting them in Ozaukee County through her community involvement and production of children’s musical theater.  On January 11th and 12th , she will be pulling back the curtain with excitement as the NSAA Stagekids Guest Producer of Elf Jr., a children’s musical performance at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center. Tickets for Elf Jr. can be purchased on the Cedarburg Performing Art Center’s website: http://www.cedarburgpac.com .  Be sure to catch an early glimpse of the Elf Jr. cast on Real Milwaukee with Brian Kramp of Fox 6 on the morning of January 10th.

Although the holidays are often a time of sharing and giving, Mack Reilly expresses her deep concern for the lack of funding for the arts, particularly in Grafton. She is hoping for businesses to see the value of the arts in our community and how essential they are to our well-being.  On behalf of Ozaukee Talent and the NSAA, she is asking for donations through Arts Wisconsin to help support our community youth flourish in the arts. Donations (for Ozaukee Talent) can be made through Arts Wisconsin HERE

Thank you in advance for your generous support of music and the arts which are so vital to our community. Merry Christmas and happy holidays from Healthy Ozaukee, and be sure to turn up those Christmas tunes!

Michelle Standlee is a wife, mother of three, holistic registered nurse and founder of Healthy Ozaukee living in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. While tuning into her favorite Christmas radio station 105.3, you can find her researching alternative medicine, writing about health and wellness and singing and writing Christian music.

The Cedar Creek Settlement is an active place to spend the afternoon and find unique gifts that help local small businesses.   The building provides a hub of activity that appeals to both men and women.

Make it a date!

Live music will begin at noon on Saturday November 17 just before #blackfriday

Of Mics and Men

Of Mics and Men is the acoustic guitar duo Bill Rotter and Peter Gohsman.  They’ve been together formally as a duo for only a short while. They met a few years ago playing guitar and have played a few private parties with close friends. What brought them together was their mutual appreciation of what the other brings to the music; they believe their collaboration results in better music than either could perform alone.    Bill plays lead guitar and sings; Peter sings lead and plays rhythm guitar.

One of Bill’s highlights involved playing bass in a band led by a schoolmate who went on to a career touring with a world famous musician and band.  Peter’s highlight is having one of his songs played on Milwaukee radio station WMSE.

They play a wide variety of recognizable songs, from artists such as Zac Brown, Van Morrison, David Grey, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Bill Withers, The Allman Brothers, to name just a few.  Bill and Peter also write their own material and they might work an original or two into a set. Mostly though, they like to share their interpretations of songs that the audience will know and enjoy.

Arts Wisconsin logo celebrating 25 years

Thank you Arts Wisconsin for partnering with Ozaukee Talent!

Ozaukee Talent is seeking benefactors who understand the experiential and monetary value that the arts bring to area businesses.   Please consider making a tax-deductible, end-of-the-year donation through Arts Wisconsin to support Angie Mack Reilly and Ozaukee Talent.  Angie is a lifelong arts leader who has made substantial contributions of time and talent throughout Ozaukee County.

BIO
Ash (Bultman) Stephens is an Indie singer/songwriter musician. She was born in the small fishing town of Homer, Alaska and lived in a cabin beside Kachemak Bay  After moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ash began playing bass for her church band and then busking on street corners after school. An accomplished local musician noticed her abilities and began to mentor Ash, exposing her to a wide range of styles and genres. Soon after, she began to seriously focus on original composition. Ash mixes rock, jazz, and modern  folk to create what she calls ‘imaginative compositions’ and what others call ‘a truly unique, alternative musical experience.’

Ash delivers an exciting show as both a solo artist or with her full band. In 2016 she released her debut self-titled EP Ash, that features her performing solo with guitar and voice.
Her new release, Save the Sky is her first full-length album that introduces her full band, creating an original/vintage sound. Dynamic and versatile, Ash Bultman’s music crosses into several markets giving her a broad fan base that ranges in age and stylistic interests. Ash’s is featured on her strong compositions on voice, acoustic guitar, and various pianos. Her band includes Dave Schoepke on drums, (Willy Porter, Martin Barre), Guitarist, Chris Krellwitz, (Kinetic, Platinum) and Peter Treuden on percussion, (Kinetic, Matt Miller Jazz Trio) and Rosa Borisova on cello. This collaboration creates modern musical depth with a timeless sound.
Save the Sky was produced by Matt Miller, “I’ve had the pleasure to work as both a producer and music teacher for Ash and several current National Recording Artists including Eagle Trace, Keegan Calmes from Vinyl Theatre, and Chris Sancho from Ashley McBride. I cannot be more excited about Ash’s new release, Save the Sky. Her musicianship and ability to tell a story through her songs are truly exceptional, I see a bright future for her and a long career as a recording artist “.

Annual Musician Mash-up 2018 to be Held September 1 at the Grafton House of Blues Starting at 3 pm

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 44 Second

For Immediate Release (Grafton, WI)

Media Inquiries:  Contact angie@ozaukeetalent.com

Annual Musician Mash-up 2018

Mission:  A musician networking event that raises awareness about the unique challenges musicians face with the goal of creating more opportunities in Ozaukee County for musicians to be featured,  paid adequately and to improve their quality of life.

Founded by Angie Mack Reilly of Ozaukee Talent.  Organized by William Baxter of The Science Project and Ramatik Records and Angie Mack Reilly (also an internationally known Paramount Records/Music historian).  See Angie and Paramount Records

Why:  There are not enough income earning opportunities for musicians and singers in Ozaukee County.   There is not enough funding for musicians and arts organizations, particularly in Grafton, WI.   And there should be, considering Grafton’s music history.  Many musicians in Ozaukee County are living in or near poverty, do not have adequate health, dental or mental healthcare.  The goal is to unite, inspire and empower local musicians to raise awareness and to convince businesses and organizations to financially support a music scene in Grafton, WI.

When:  To be held in conjunction with the Paramount Music Festival at the Grafton House of Blues. .  Open Jam Session begins at 3pm on Saturday September 1st.  Address is 1701  11th Ave.  RSVP would be appreciated:  angie@ozaukeetalent.com

Where:  Located 2 blocks northwest of the Mississippi Blues Trail Historical Marker, former 78 record pressing plant and recording studio where blues legends such as Son House, Charlie Patton and Skip James recorded.  Angie Mack Reilly was the person who successfully pitched the concept of an annual blues festival (aka the Paramount Blues Festival), the first “Blues in the Schools” program in Grafton featuring Michael “Hawkeye” Herman, the music-themed downtown development in the heart of Grafton and the filming of a Paramount Records segment on PBS History Detectives to name a few.

ANGIE AND PARAMOUNT RECORDS

What:  An informal weekend of musician jams, mixed genres, improvisation, songwriting, jam bands, free verse and anything else that moves about creatively, freely and fluidly.  Some of the best music and collaborative ideas come in an informal and improvisational setting.  Unfortunately, those times are rare and often unrecorded.  That is why we are hoping to create a comfortable and safe environment that encourages and inspires innovative thought.

Who:  All levels of musicianship are welcome. Ideas are welcome. Free admission for musicians and their significant others.  This is a kid-free event.  Musicians, bring your gear and whatever you like to drink.  Bring your merch if you have it!  Must be 18 or older.  Underage drinking is not allowed and musicians will be asked to show their driver’s license as ID.  Musicians coming may pitch a tent in the yard on Saturday night.

Marketing Hashtags: #keepitunderground #paramountrecords #musicianmashup and #kiu (keep it underground) #williambaxter #thescienceproject #franklinandfriends

Coming Soon!   #KIU product line to help fund events that financially benefit musicians

Donations:  People who care about the well-being of musicians and the cultural offerings in Ozaukee County are encouraged to donate.  Ozaukee Talent is a fiscal receiver through Arts Wisconsin.  Suggested amount:  $10/mo. or $50.
